Here is my opinion of what happened today. Under normal circumstances I would say Gabriel would play through whatever back pain he has. But since the Browns were not able to engineer a trade AND the Browns did not want to risk losing Gabriel to a future opponent early in the season, the Browns were able to manipulate the NFL's enormous medical gray area. An NFL quarterback can have back spasms, soreness, inflammation, etc., while reasonable doctors could disagree about whether he is capable of playing football. I am sure the Browns' medical staff legitimately documented Gabriel's back condition and concluded rehabilitation is appropriate but let's get real. If Gabriel was #1 or #2 and even #3, he'd be dressing on September 13....
